Christmas Cheer

This morning, during our form time, the children in Upper Prep 1 have decorated their Christmas tree and have taken some Elfie Selfies!

Our form room was filled with laughter and Christmas music - what a great way to start the week.

McDonalds in Yarm? - What a debate!

Today, the children have been challenged to prepare for a debate to consider whether it would be a good idea for McDonalds to open on Yarm High Street.

One group took on the role of McDonald's business leaders, the second group were the local residents in favour of this and the final group were the local residents against this development.  Each group had the opportunity to present their views and arguments before being able to challenge the points made by the other groups.

There were some interesting challenges but all of the groups were able to counter argue the points raised by the opposition.  The children commented on issues ranging from traffic and parking to childhood obesity, litter and the potential impact on local, independent businesses.  All of the comments showed that the children were applying their learning from their other tasks throughout the unit.

At the end of the debate, the children voted to show whether they were for or against this proposal.  The majority vote went to those who were opposed to the idea of McDonalds opening in Yarm.

A great effort by all of the children in Upper Prep 1, including Eshel who took part remotely.

Well done to everyone!

Children in Need

The children in Upper Prep 1 are enjoying our Children in Need fundraising.

Everyone is very comfy in their home clothes and the excitement in our from room this morning has been due to the upcoming duck race.

All of the children have paid to buy a duck, ranging from Beaky Blinders to Quack and Cheese.  They are eagerly awaiting the live streaming of the race at 1pm this afternoon!  We wonder who will be crowned the winner!

Welcome!

We would like to say a very big 'Welcome' to Rebeca who has joined Upper Prep 1 this week.  We are confident that she will settle into school life very quickly and that she, along with the rest of her family, will receive a very warm 'Teesside High' welcome.

Five to Thrive

This morning the children in Upper Prep 1 have kicked off their 'Five to Thrive' challenge for Children in Need by completing the first Joe Wicks 5 minute work out to wake them up and energise them for their day.

This year, Children in Need are making children's mental well being their number one priority.  With this in mind, our Upper Prep 1 class will be completing different activities during the week to promote their mental health.

Creative Designers

The children in Upper Prep 1 have been continuing to work hard in their IPC lessons.  Their Going Global unit is now in full swing and the children have been considering imports and exports in more detail.

The children have studied the UK’s main imports and exports and have compared them with those of China and Ghana.  Some of the similarities and differences were very obvious and some took a little more consideration.  Through some great discussion, the children began to appreciate some of the reasons behind the differences and similarities in traded commodities.

The children then looked at a media promotion pack from a major global company and have considered how they promote themselves including how they make themselves appear more appealing for their target audience.  With this fresh in their minds, the children were tasked with producing their own promotion material to promote the UK’s main exports.

The children have approached this with enthusiasm and determination and I am very proud of their ideas and creativity.  This has helped them to focus on this element of global trade and consider what makes the UK appealing for businesses.

Here are a few pictures of our children proudly showing their work.

Well done to you all, a fantastic effort!
