Balloon Rockets

This morning the children in Upper Prep 1 have been making balloon rockets.

We will be thinking about potential and kinetic energy in our next lesson as well as setting up an investigation to test our balloon rockets in more detail.

Here is some of the children making and testing their rockets to make sure that they fly.

Solar Ovens

This week in IPC, we have been making solar ovens to try and melt some chocolate.

The children have been thinking about the processes involved and how the oven works.

Here are some photos of the children making their ovens.

Anemometers

The children in Upper Prep 1 have been making anemometers today to try and investigate which would be the most suitable place within the school grounds for a wind turbine.

Home learners were able to collaborate on line and have tested their anemometers at home.  Harry also kept Miss Fenny right so that she made his correctly in the classroom!

The children worked well on Google Breakout Rooms to discuss the options for the testing sites thinking about the amount of wind, barriers and practical issues.

When we went out into the school grounds to test our different locations, we took the home learners with us on a Google Meet so that they too could be involved with our data collection and see what was happening.

In our next lesson, the children will be analysing the results and creating a report to make recommendations, along with explaining which sites were not suitable.

Making Things Go!

Today in IPC, Upper Prep 1 have started their new unit, 'Making Things Go!'.  They had lots of fun experimenting to see which design of paper aeroplane would travel the furthest.  Rebeca was crowned the overall winner!

The children also experimented to see who could get the frisbee into the hoop by using different forces and standing at different distances.

This lesson's activities will lead on nicely as the children think more about types of energy.

We have lots of exciting activities planned so watch out for more pictures!
