STEM Week - Monday

Today the children in Upper Prep 1 have had a great start to our STEM week.

The children started the day by listening to the following song, to introduce the many differences of people in the world.

The children thought about how people could be different, including religion, skin colour, language, abilities and disabilities.  We then identified 6 different conditions which may effect people - autism, ADHD, Downs Syndrome, blindness, wheel chair use and Asperger syndrome.  The children worked in pairs to research their chosen difference and then to create a presentation   All of the children spoke with confidence and clarity and presented clear, informative presentations.  By the end of the presentations, we decided that most of these should be called differences rather than disabilities as all of the children found a huge host of success stories and famous people with these conditions.

The children were also treated to two virtual visitors.  Bev Goodall from Abacus Bean Accountancy and Lyndsay Hogg from Hogg Global Logistics.  Both of these visitors have award winning local businesses and we were lucky to get some insight into their line of work.  We also found out about the diversity of both the work force and the clients of these companies.

The children are excited to see what is in store for their STEM week learning on Tuesday!
