STEM Week - Tuesday

The children in Upper Prep 1 have continued to enjoy their STEM week activities today.

The children were greeted this morning by their teachers and as you can see, there was no doubt in their minds what the theme of the day was!

The children have spent the whole day learning about bees and their important role in the world.

The children spent some time this morning outside in our school grounds making 'bee bombs'.  These contain a mixture of wild flower seeds which will attract bees once they start to bloom.  The children know that this is important and an essential way to aid pollination.

The children were then lucky to have another virtual visitor.  This time John from Tees Bees told us more about his hobby as a bee keeper.  He gave us lots of information and also showed us the inside of his bee hive.  There was lots of new facts to learn and it was great to see the protective clothing that John has to wear to keep himself safe.  The children asked lots of super questions and thoroughly enjoyed this speaker.

The children didn't stop there and this afternoon have had a great time at a special bee themed woodland session with Miss Hopkins.  They have all made a bee house which they can take home to put up in their gardens.  They also completed a bee adventure trail.

In between our visitors and outdoor activities, the children have spent their time making some mobiles.  They have created their own bees and flowers and have included interesting bee facts on the back of their pictures.  We even found a few spare minutes to complete some honey tasting!

As you can see, we have had an action packed day!
